Your Cash Wallet
What is the Cash Wallet?
Section titled “What is the Cash Wallet?”The Cash Wallet is your primary Flash wallet for everyday use. It holds your balance in US Dollars (USD).
Flash displays your balance in your local currency (e.g. Jamaican Dollars) using real-time exchange rates, but the underlying asset is always USD.
This is the wallet you use for:
- Topping up from your bank account
- Cashing out to your bank account
- Paying merchants at Flashpoint locations
- Sending and receiving money with other Flash users
- Swapping into Bitcoin when you want to buy or hold BTC
How the Cash Wallet Works
Section titled “How the Cash Wallet Works”When you hold USD in your Cash Wallet, Flash keeps your balance stable in dollar terms. You don’t need to worry about Bitcoin price swings — your $50 stays $50 regardless of what Bitcoin does.
Behind the scenes, Flash uses a stabilized Bitcoin system to make this possible. Your dollars are backed by a USD stablecoin (USDT), which allows Flash to move your money instantly over the Bitcoin network without the volatility you’d normally associate with Bitcoin.
For most users, you don’t need to think about any of this — it just works like a dollar wallet.
Technical details (for those who want to know more)
The Flash Cash Wallet uses a product described by IBEX Mercado as “Stabilized USD Bitcoin.” Under the hood:
- You are technically holding satoshis (the smallest unit of Bitcoin), not US dollars
- The number of satoshis in your wallet adjusts continuously based on the live USD/BTC market price, so your dollar balance stays constant
- The system is backed by USDT (a US Dollar stablecoin), which provides the dollar peg
- This allows Flash to settle instantly over the Lightning Network while keeping your balance denominated in USD
This means your Cash Wallet balance is stable in USD terms, but it is not a traditional bank deposit. It is a Bitcoin-native, USD-pegged instrument.
